Madekwe is the daughter of a mixed-race family from South London in England. Madekwe is English, and her father is Nigerian. Her family was raised on a south London council estate and attended The Brit School at age 14. She pursued acting studies in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She played Tituba in the show Salem between 2014 and 2016. Madekwe got married to her long-time partner, Iddo. Apart from Secret Diary of a Call Girl they also appeared together on Salem and also he played a part alongside her in that TV show.
